Zachary Backen, of Pack 391 in Tama/Toledo, was the grand prize winner in a drawing for an iPod Shuffle after filling out a full sheet of sales during the popcorn fundraiser — selling more than $1,000 worth of popcorn products.

The Marshalltown Community College Tigers defeated No. 8 ranked Southeast Community College 90-76 as Anthony Harris had a big night with 33 points while Kelvin Anderson and Jason Berkey each finished with 21 points.

Revenge was sweet as the Marshalltown High School boys blasted the Ames Little Cyclones 82-55 with Dan Clayton putting on a shooting display with 22 points and 100 percent from the free throw line.

The West Marshall boys basketball team went head to head with Gladbrook-Reinbeck as the No. 5 Class 2A Trojans came out on top 60-55 in overtime with Jake Shipley and Ross Howe led the scoring with 15 points each assisted by Sam Buck’s 11 points.

The West Marshall boys rallied in the second half to defeat South Hamilton 51-49 with three Trojans leading the offense: Brian Smith with 13 points, Nathan Pierson with 12 and Matt Lively adding 11.

The Y Swim team downed Ames 399-255 as two records were broken: 8 and under girls 100 freestyle relay team of Chris Mayberry, Cory Fox, Holly Heddens and Amy Reisetter while John Borthwick broke the 13-14 boys 200 freestyle record.

MHS outscored West Des Moines Valley in the third quarter 20-4 to gain the upper hand and a 59-49 victory as Chanse Creekmur and Michael Appel combined to score all but two of the ‘Cats points, 24 and 18 respectively.

South Tama wrestlers had a good day at the Johnston Dual Tournament as they captured 4-out-of-5 duals defeating Des Moines Hoover 56-6, Bondurant-Farrar 37-37, Jefferson-Scranton 38-26 and Adel-DeSoto 39-36 as Wes Hand won all five of his matches tying him for the most career victories in school history.

EM/GMG Wrestling Tournament favored the home team as Em/GMG downed previously unbeaten MFL MAR-MAC 33-29 to close out a 4-0 on day on the mats as Blake Meling along with Sam Upah Jase Schossow, Jeremy Roberts, Gabe Uhde and Jesse Buchanan all finished 4-0 for the day.
