The West Marshall girls used a seven-run fourth inning to control their 11-0 romp over Northeast Hamilton as freshman hitter Karen Smith had a big night with three singles and two runs scored.

Three LDF band students toured Austria and surrounding countries with the Central Iowa Wind Orchestra: Julie Clover and Tammy Finders on clarinet and Jody Lueders on alto saxophone.

No. 5 ranked BCLUW softball team topped Iowa City Regina 2-0 to reach the Class 2A finals as Jamie Fisher shut out the Regals allowing only three hits and striking out 12 batters.

The East Marshall baseball team defeated Hudson 4-3 to capture the Class 2A substate final crown and set their berth in the State Baseball Tournament.

BCLUW softball team earned the school’s first ever state softball championship when they defeated Emmetsburg 1-0 as Jamie Fisher ran her season record to 35-2 earning her the all-tournament team captain spot.

BCLUW High School was the only Class 2A sized school to receive The Blood Center of Iowa’s 2009 High School Scholarship of $1,000 which was awarded to senior Blake Zacharias.

No. 1 ranked East Marshall held off Colo-Nesco 3-2 to advance to the 1A regional final as East Marshall took the win in the seventh inning when Lisa Randall doubled putting pinch runner Marci Wolken on base as Amanda Bailey singled to give way to Megan Rhinehart’s hit straight up the middle for the win.
