Liscomb Auxiliary hears about Girls State

LISCOMB — The Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met on July 6 at the Community Church in Union for a noon potluck. President Sharon Hatch gave a welcome and a meal prayer was given by junior member Kerrigan Hatch. Guests were Lauren Mosher, her mother Brenda and Jean Drury.

The program was given by Lauren, the units Girl State junior from BCLUW. She said there were about 265 girls there and spoke on each days events.

President Hatch called the 1:30 p.m. meeting to order, Chaplain pro-tem gave the prayer, roll call was answered by seven present giving a July 4 memory. The unit recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Auxiliary Preamble followed by a moment of silence for the MIA/POWs and deceased veterans.

The June meeting minutes were read and approved. Hatch reported on the Iowa Veterans Home Ladies Lunch, three members attended. Music was provided by the IVH music department director who sang and played the keyboard. Several quilts were given away to special ladies present.

Aug. 18 is IVH all Marshall County Units Bingo. The Third District Conference will be hosted by Beaman at their Legion Post on Sept. 9. No August meeting is planned.

Sept. 7 will be the next meeting hosted by President Hatch at her home in Whitten. Dues are to be paid at this time to Treasurer Candy Wait, Box 13, Union, Iowa, 50258.

Dorothy Sorensen read “Happy Birthday Uncle Sam.” She gave the closing prayer.

President Hatch dismissed with the Auxiliary closing.
