Fall Thrift Sale is Sept. 29-30

The Assistance League of Marshalltown will be holding its annual Fall Thrift Sale from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 30. The sale will be held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 20 W. State St, Marshalltown. Since this is also Homecoming weekend, a Bobcat apparel store will be available while items last. Marshalltown VFW upgrades agenda

Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 processed an extensive roster of topics in a two-hour session during Tuesday’s September meeting. Looking ahead the 15 members of Harry C. Harter Post in attendance even set the unit’s Christmas party date this year for Dec. 2, with Rick Johnson and Delmar Roberts leading planning. Also a public fundraiser tenderloin meal was set for 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Among other topics was planning for outdoor facility signs at 107 E. Spinning Wheel Chapter discusses ways to serve

The Spinning Wheel Chapter DAR met at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Marshalltown Library with Whitney Hunt, Chapter regent, presiding with 12 members and one guest. Refreshments were served by Hostesses Diane Hobson and Janice Juchems. Chaplin Linda Schaper gave the invocation. Hunt led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and American’s Creed. Liscomb Auxiliary plans fall events

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at Vickie Penner’s home in Liscomb at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 8. The meeting was called to order by Pres. Sharon Hatch. Roll call was answered by six present. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave devotions. A moment of silence was observed for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans. Ave Maria Study Club begins new year

The Ave Maria Study Club met in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church on Sept. 9, starting with a potluck salad luncheon with 15 members and one guest present. The meal was furnished by those attending. The meal was followed by the praying the Rosary. The program chosen to begin this year dedicated to priests was the first part of the YouTube video, “The Making of a Catholic Priest” produced by Bishop Robert Barrons’ “Word on Fire Institute” and was shown by Edith Podhajsky. Gladbrook Auxiliary sets autumn events

GLADBROOK — President Jeanne Paustian welcomed 13 members of Unit #127 of the Gladbrook Legion Auxiliary as she shared information from Department and National Conventions she attended. Prayer was offered by Rose Russell and the group enjoyed a maidrite supper to start the evening. The meeting reconvened with all reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
