Marshalltown VFW holds July session

Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 at its July meeting Tuesday acted on a series of ongoing topics. Prior to Commander Rob Shepherd opening the business session Bob Miller presented the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard report, noting already 51 participations at veterans funerals this year. Miller addressed donations, including Honor Guard giving $100 toward the veterans Healing Wall. Incoming donations are down this year, which he attributes to the inflationary situation. Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 leaders aired this summers coming activities during Tuesdays June meeting, with Commander Rob Shepherd in charge. Prior to Shepherd opening the meeting Bob Miller reported on joint VFW/American Legion Honor Guard actions, noting four participations at military funerals during May. Chapter MJ holds social at Ivadel Ruth’s Tea Room

At 6 p.m. on June 20, there were 13 P.E.O. Chapter MJ sisters who visited Ivadel Ruth’s Tea Room in Union. This fun social was hosted by Dr. Cynthia Knight who is a new member of Chapter MJ. Charlene Martin acted as co-hostess of the meal, dessert and teas served. Knight told of the history surrounding the Tea Room/house she grew up in and now owns. Profits from Ivadel Ruth’s Tea Room are to help fund Iowa Net High Academy of which Knight is the founder and president. Laurel Auxiliary receives membership award

LAUREL — The Harold McBroom Laurel American Legion Auxiliary Post number 635 met at the Laurel Legion Home with six members present. LaDonna Runner, president, called the meeting to order. Laura Tribby opened the meeting with prayer. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, stood in silence for POWs, MIAs and deceased veterans.
