Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 at its July meeting Tuesday acted on a series of ongoing topics. Prior to Commander Rob Shepherd opening the business session Bob Miller presented the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard report, noting already 51 participations at veterans funerals this year. Miller addressed donations, including Honor Guard giving $100 toward the veterans Healing Wall. Incoming donations are down this year, which he attributes to the inflationary situation. At 6 p.m. on June 20, there were 13 P.E.O. Chapter MJ sisters who visited Ivadel Ruth’s Tea Room in Union. This fun social was hosted by Dr. Cynthia Knight who is a new member of Chapter MJ. Charlene Martin acted as co-hostess of the meal, dessert and teas served. Knight told of the history surrounding the Tea Room/house she grew up in and now owns. Profits from Ivadel Ruth’s Tea Room are to help fund Iowa Net High Academy of which Knight is the founder and president.
