Rodney Lee Cooper Jr. made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. A Rocket Docket pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 16 in Magistrate Court. Cooper was also seen on a warrant charging while with failure to appear for a trial. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. The trial is rescheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 22 with a pre-trial conference at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. Cooper was released on his promise to appear.

Derek M. Tompkins made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Oct. 19. Tompkins was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation was ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

Jessica L. Balvanz made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Oct. 19. Balvanz was released on her promise to appear.

A 15-year-old female made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14.

A 14-year-old female made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 28.

Angel Galvan Lara made an initial appearance through an interpreter on a interference with official acts charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. He pleaded guilty to all charges. On the interference charge the total if $397.50; the speeding charge is $119 and the total for the driver’s license is $335, all due within 90 days.

Andre Lamonte Williams made an initial appearance on a threat-explosive or incendiary device charge, an interference with official acts charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and an assault charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

Ren Verlyn Corral made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 28 in Magistrate Court.

Joleen Wanatee made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. Her next court appearance is a pre-trial conference at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 with a trial scheduled at 9 a.m. on Oct. 22.

Accidents

On Friday, a car driven by Libby Leona Cowan, of Beaman, was southbound on Wallace Avenue at the intersection with Garwin Road when it entered the intersection in front of a truck driven by Stephen Dean Claussen, of Garwin, which was eastbound on the Garwin Road resulting in a collision with the right rear quarter panel of the Cowan car. Cowan and a six-year-old male passenger were transported to Central Iowa Healthcare with possible injuries. Damage to the Cowan car was estimated at $8,000 while the Claussen truck sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage.

On Sept. 24, a pickup driven by Rusty Charles Rhamy, of Ames, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rhamy pickup is estimated at $3,500.

On Sept. 24, a motorcycle driven by Seth Ryan Webb, of Garwin, was eastbound in the 600 block of Main Street in Le Grand when it accelerated and the front tire left the roadway in an upwards motion causing it to go over backwards and throwing the driver off while continuing in an easterly direction for a shot time. Webb was transported to Central Iowa Healthcare with possible injuries. Webb was cited for careless driving and no insurance. Damage to the Webb motorcycle was estimated at $3,000.
