• Manuel Gabino made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set a $1,000 cash or surety.

• Fernando Carrillo Robles made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and an interference with official acts charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel for the probation violation. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set a $2,000 cash only. Carrillo Robles pleaded not guilty to the interference charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 21 in Magistrate Court.

• Zane Aaron Dolash made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge and an interference with official acts charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel for the probation violation. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set a $5,000 cash only. Dolash pleaded not guilty to the interference charge and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 21 in Magistrate Court.

• Tanner Clarence Stanley made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 15. Bond is set a $5,000 cash only. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Giles Lee Steckman made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an initial appearance hearing on a possession of marijuana-second offense charge, a failure to appear for an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a failure to appear for an initial hearing on a failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on July 25. Steckman is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Amanda Lee Morris made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Morris pleaded guilty to both charges. On the failure to stop charge the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Labina Michelle McDowell made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge, a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a no insurance charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 25. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Accidents

• On Friday, a pickup driven by Michael Elmer Garrels, 70, of Laurel, was southbound on 18th Avenue when the driver signaled to turn onto Iowa Avenue and then changed his mind resulting in a collision with a car driven by 17-year-old female who was eastbound on Iowa Avenue and believed the turn signal and pulled onto 18th Avenue. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Garrels pickup was estimated at $3,000 while the juvenile’s car received an estimated $7,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a van driven by Jenna Kay Veren, 29, of Clemons, was northbound on South Center Street when a car driven by Pamela Kay Long, 70, of Le Grand, slowed quickly resulting in a collision. Long drove to her destination before checking damages and Veren did as well, before going to the Police Station to complete an accident report. No injureis were reported. Damage to the Long car was estimated at $5,000 while the Veren van received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a car driven by Arturo Manzo Macias, 20, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Ninth Street when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center line and collided with a pickup driven by Domingo Gomez Nepamuceno, 35, of Des Moines. No injuries were reported. Gomez Nepamuceno was cited for no insurance-accident while Manzo Macias was cited for no insurance-accident, failure to maintain control and driving while barred. Damage to the Manzo Macias car was estimated at $3,500 while the Gomez Nepamuceno pickup received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Thursday, Jacob Poole, 37, was arrested for public consumption of alcohol-first offense and operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Thursday, Robert Grafton Jr., 29, was arrested for contempt of court/violation of a no-contact order.

• On Thursday, Giles Steckman, 39, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to obey a stop sign and possession of a controlled substance-second offense.

• On Wednesday, Jeffrey Alan Carroll, 64, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense.

• On Wednesday, Arianna Marie Tichy, 25, was arrested for dog at large.

June 30

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 201 N. Second Ave., an extraction of victims from vehicle a 504 E. Southridge Road, two smoke detector activations due to malfunction at 1002 S. Third Ave. and 705 S. Center St. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 310 S. Second St., 417 Park St. and 802 S. Center St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 10 Lafrentz Lane and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 230 S. Third Ave., 4 W. Boone St. and 1112 Bromley St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 1203 Fremont St., a medical assist with the EMS crew to 219 N. Second Ave. and a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at 408 S. Ninth St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 2001 S. Fourth St., a medical assist with the EMS crew to 208 S. 16th Ave. and an extrication of victims from vehicle at 1800 Wallace Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 1211 W. State St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 401 N. First St. and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 608 E. State St., 514 E. Olive St., North Third Avenue and East State Street, 1301 Summit St., 8 S. Fifth Ave. and 1705 W. Main St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident, general cleanup at 18th Avenue and Iowa Avenuen and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1401 S. 17th Ave., 908 Jackson St., 524 N. First St. and 1012 S. First Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two smoke scare, smell of smoke at 2704 Arnold Drive and 1 W. Grant St. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1 W. Grant St., 122 W. Main St. and 1610 Laurel Drive.
