Court — Thursday

• Anthony Lynn West made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood causing injury charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jerry Lavelle Martin III made an initial appearance on a trespass-third offense charge and a theft-fifth degree charge. Martin pleaded guilty to both charges. On the trespass charge the fine is $1,000 with a $350 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $1,535. The fine on the theft charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75. All payments are due by Dec. 31.

• Lansin James William Lacina made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge, a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and an unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 19. Lacina is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Derrick Lamont Wilson, of Cedar Rapids, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a possession of marijuana-first offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 19. Wilson is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Anthony West, 31, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of blood or air causing bodily injury.

• On Wednesday, Matthew Tyda, 38, was arrested for supplying alcohol to persons under legal age.

• On Wednesday, Jerry Martin III, 23, was arrested for theft-fifth degree and on a warrant.

• On Thursday, Derrick Wilson, 24, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana-first offense and driving while barred-habitual offender.

• On Thursday, Jared Culver, 28, was arrested for burglary-third degree.

• On Thursday, Douglas Davis, 25, was arrested for burglary-third degree.

• On Thursday, Adam Flathers, 32, was arrested for burglary-third degree.

Accidents

• On July 24, a pickup driven by Vernon Dean Crook, 55, of Nevada, was southbound in the right lane on South Center Street when it collided with a car driven by Rebecca Ann Stewart, 40, of Marshalltown, which was stopped in traffic sending it into the rear of a vehicle driven by Jessica Lyn Perry, 35, of State Center. No injuries were reported. Crook was cited for failure to stop in the assured, clear distance. Damage to the Crook pickup was estimated at $500 while the Stewart car received an estimated $7,000 in damage and the Perry vehicle an estimated $400 in damage.

• On Monday, a Jeep driven by Alicia Vega, 19, of Marshalltown, was northbound on the Sixth Street viaduct in the inside lane when the driver thought she saw glass in her lane and moved to the right colliding with a Jeep driven by David Albert Cox, 66, of Marshalltown, which was in the Vega’s Jeep blind spot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Vega Jeep was estimated at $700 while the Cox Jeep received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Wednesday, a car driven by a 17-year-old female from Montour was southbound on Ninth Street at the intersection with Lincolnway when the car continued into the intersection and collided with a semi driven by Bradley Alan Vance, 33, of Pleasant Hill. The juvenile was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown by ambulance. The juvenile was cited for failure to obey a stops sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the car was estimated at $5,000 while the Vance semi received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

Arrests

• On Wednesday, Lansin James William Lacina, 20, was arrested for unlawful possession of prescription drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana-first offense and possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.

• On Wednesday, Douglas Lee Davis, 25, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Wednesday, Kirk Williams, 32, was arrested for violation of parole and criminal mischief-third degree.

Accidents

• On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by Alyssa Dean McCarthy, 26, of Conrad, was southbound on Wallace Avenue when it swerved to miss a stopped motorcycle and collided with the rear of a Jeep driven by Mitchell Charles Parker, 41, of Conrad, which was stopped by a flagman. No injuries were reported. McCarthy was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the McCarthy vehicle was estimated at $7,000 while the Parker Jeep received an estimated $5,000 in damage.
