• Jared C. Culver, of Glenburn, Maine, made an initial appearance on a possession of burglar’s tools charge, a burglary-third degree charge, a possession of marijuana-third offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. Upon release, Culver will have 60 days to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court.

• Clinton Bates Squire made an initial appearance on two counts of failure to appear for a contempt hearing. Squire will continue to represent himself before the court. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court. Squire is being held without bond.

• Joshua Lee Davis, of Pleasant Hill, made an initial appearance on an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. Steven Terrell Thrift made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. Breanna Nelson will continue as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Keelan Cody Walker, of Tama, made an initial appearance on an operating while under the influence-second offense charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 21. Walker is released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Jack Lewis Good made an initial appearance on an identity theft charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

• Marvin Geovani Corea entered a written plea of guilty on a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. The fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Samantha Jo Daniel made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a failure to yield to a pedestrian charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Daniel pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 in Magistrate Court.

• Nathan Ryan Burris, of Liscomb, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a operation of a non-registered vehicle charge and a no insurance charge. The no registration and no insurance charges were dismissed when proof of both were submitted to the court with court costs of $60 assessed. Burris pleaded not guilty to the driving under suspension and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 in Magistrate Court.

• Jane Sun Miller made an initial appearance on a failure to stop in the assured, clear distance charge. Miller pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• David Brown made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Brown pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 25 in Magistrate Court.

• Krystle Ann Nelson made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Nelson pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 in Magistrate Court.

• On Friday, a burglary was reported in the 10 block of South Eighth Avenue.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a car driven by Ashley Sue Jensen, 20, of Marshalltown, was southbound in the 300 block of South 12th Street when it collided with a vehicle driven by Zachary Scott Pappas, 32, of Marshalltown, when he backed out of a private driveway onto the street. No injuries were reported. Pappas was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each.

• On Thursday, Rocio Reyes, 19, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an electrical wiring/equipment problem at 503 Marion St. and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 114 N. 10th Ave., 111 N. Third Ave., 1603 Iowa Ave. W, 1007 E. Anson St., 208 W. State St., 807 W. Linn St. and 1913 S. Fourth Ave.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to Highway 330 and Durham Avenue and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 602 Arlington Drive and 915 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 1304 Greenbriar Lane and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 428 Union St., 428 Union St., 605 Arlington Drive and 410 S. First Ave.

Third St., a vehicle accident general clean-up at South Center Street and Berle Road, two unauthorized burnings at East Anson Street and South Fifth Avenue and 600 block of North 16th Street and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 201 Nicholas Drive, 2007 S. Fifth Ave., 1518 S. Sixth St., 1002 W. Boone St. and 1700 S. Center St.

• The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a building fire at 708 E. Noble St., a dispatched/cancelled en route to 1401 S. 17th Ave., a cooking fire, confined to container at 712 W. Nevada St., an unintentional transmission of alarm at 915 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd. and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1 W. Grant St., 3202 S. 12th St. and 304 1/2 S. Second Ave.
