Thank you for the support

Last year when I wrote this letter, I was not sure that it could get any better. Today, I know that for this community, anything is possible! The 26th anniversary of Night of Stars was held last month to benefit Iowa River Hospice and the American Cancer Society. It was an incredible and inspiring event that was a mixture of sparkle and soul.

The committee led by Susan Krough, Kyley and Bryan Leger and Jonell Wittkop put together an evening that will long be remembered. Many fabulous auction items were donated by area businesses and individuals who said “Yes!” when asked to provide their goods or services. Many others sent checks of support to underwrite the costs of the event.

I had not heard Amy Harper speak before this event, but I will never forget how her story and her positive message in the face of an awful foe inspired and humbled me. Through just the right mixtures of her struggle and a witty humor that has served her well, she relayed her story to a packed house at the beautifully decorated Elmwood Country Club. At the end, she received a standing ovation.

The energetic and good natured bidding lead by Doug West from the Auction Corner kept the evening exciting and helped to push the money raised from the event to record heights. More than $75,000 was raised for these two great organizations, blowing away previous totals.

The real star of the evening was once again this generous community. Volunteerism was celebrated in its purest form with so many offering their skills, talents, treasure and time to make this effort our best yet.

Thank you from all of us at Iowa River Hospice on behalf of our patients, their loved ones, our staff and volunteers. We are indebted to all who support this wonderful event.
