Stephanie Soares

AMES — After an outstanding pair of games at the Phil Knight Invitational, Iowa State’s Stephanie Soares has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Against Michigan State, Soares exploded for 23 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. In the PKI final against then-No. 8 North Carolina, Soares finished with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

For the week, Soares led the Big 12 in scoring (21 ppg), rebounding (11.5 rpg) and blocked shots (4.0 bpg). In addition, she led in efficiency, shooting 54.8 percent from the field.
