Tigers trounced by Reivers on the road

COUNCIL BLUFFS — In their second meeting of the season, the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team was lambasted by No. 5 Iowa Western on Saturday, falling 119-43 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play.

MCC scored just 17 points in the first half and trailed by 45 points at the halftime break. The Tigers shot 26.2 percent from the floor and hit just 4-of-22 shots from behind the 3-point line.

Waiaaria Rogers led the Tigers with 13 points, going 6-for-20 from the floor. She also had 13 turnovers to just two assists. Emma Long was the team’s other double-digit scorer with 10 points. She hit 5-of-7 free throws and added four steals.

Kaylin Smith scored eight points off the bench for MCC (0-16, 0-9), and Isneydy Mercedes led the Tigers with nine rebounds.

Six players scored in double figures for the Reivers (17-3, 8-2), led by Jamyah Winter with 28 points off the bench. Winter made eight of the team’s 21 3-pointers. Hannah Burg added 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
