SPORTS SHORTS: 5-inning perfecto propels East Marshall past GMG
GILMAN — Carter Anderson pitched a five-inning perfect game and the East Marshall baseball team blanked GMG 10-0 in Tuesday’s run rule-shortened contest.
Anderson struck out nine and walked none in the complete-game performance, needing just 55 pitches to mow down the Wolverines (4-9). East Marshall (4-12) backed Anderson with 13 hits.
Tyler Fuller finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Mustangs. Blake Neuroth was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Connor Hassin was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Alex Jacobson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Connor Kriegel was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jacob Farrington added an RBI double and Brock Curtis had a run-scoring single.

Thompson’s two-hitter helps Trojans tame Tigers
STATE CENTER — Dylan Thompson twirled a one-hitter and the Class 2A No. 9 West Marshall baseball team stymied South Hardin 11-1 in five innings in Tuesday’s non-conference clash.
Thompson struck out six, walked two and hit a batter, allowing only an unearned run in the complete-game victory.
Beckham DeSotel was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Trojans (16-3) on offense. Clay Cuva was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Evan Siegert was 1-for-1 with a run and two RBIs.
Pitchers from South Hardin (8-12) issued 11 walks and hit two batters. Owen Siegert was walked twice and plunked once, stole two bases and scored three times.
Spartans stop Oelwein in NICL baseball action
GRUNDY CENTER — Brayden Davie and Tanner Laube teamed together to pitch a three-hitter and the Grundy Center baseball team beat Oelwein 6-2 in North Iowa Cedar League play here Tuesday.
Davie pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win, overcoming seven total walks to allow just two runs — one unearned — on three hits. Laube got the last two outs, both on strikes.
Tate Jirovsky finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs to lead the Spartans (10-2). Ryker Thoren was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Rebels break free to beat back Cougars
REINBECK — Gladbrook-Reinbeck broke a 3-all tie with six runs in the fourth inning as the Rebel baseball team defeated Sumner-Fredericksburg 10-6 on Tuesday night.
Caleb Egesdal went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs to lead G-R (15-9) at the plate. Luke Riffey was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Hudson Clark finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. William Kiburis was walked five times and scored twice, while Nick Tscherter was 1-for-1 and walked four times, scoring once and driving in two runs.
Winning pitcher Drew Eilers hit an RBI double. He allowed nine hits and six runs — four earned — over 6 1/3 innings for the win, walking three and striking out two. Austen Mathern got the final two outs.
Jaxon Willems was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead Sumner-Fredericksburg (11-3), and Kade Mitchell hit a solo home run.
PCM slips past Mustang softball
LE GRAND — Ella Schendel singled home Tori Lindsay with one out in the top of the fourth inning to break a tie and provide PCM with a 2-1 win over the East Marshall softball team on Tuesday night.
The visiting Mustangs (8-5) and hometown Mustangs (10-7) both scored once in the first inning, and PCM broke the tie in the fourth.
East Marshall’s lone run came with two outs in the first, when back-to-back singles by Peyton Grabenbauer and Bailey Grant brought home Rayne McIlrath.
Grabenbauer and Morgan Neuroth had two hits apiece to lead East Marshall. Makayla Hala hit a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh but was left stranded as the potential tying run.
Neuroth allowed six hits and two walks in the loss, striking out five. Her counterpart Rylee Parsons scattered six hits and one walk while striking out four for the win.
Redhawks fall behind Warriors early
TRAER — HLV scored five runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone for its 9-4 win over the North Tama softball team on Tuesday night.
Sydnee Bliss took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for the Redhawks (2-8), allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with one walk while striking out six.
Gabriella Seda and Bliss both had two hits and an RBI to lead North Tama. Lydia Taylor doubled and scored.
Huskies hammer out win over Grundy Center
SPARTANS — The Oelwein softball team rapped out 16 hits and capitalized on six walks and six errors to beat Grundy Center 10-1 in Tuesday’s North Iowa Cedar league contest.
Alexa Berryman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Oelwein (7-10). Aspen Weir walked one and struck out three for the win.
Allison Koch was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Spartans (4-14).
