Marshalltown High School senior Nick Rebik is the 2023 recipient of the Donna Hoop Memorial Scholarship. This year’s Donna Hoop Memorial is a $1,300 award that is given annually to a Bobcat baseball player in memory of the wife of longtime coach and program supporter Al Hoop. Coach Hoop, who grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from MHS, was personally involved with the Bobcat baseball program for more than 25 years. An award in his late wife’s name has been presented to a Bobcat Baseball Player every year since 2016. Nick has been a member of the MHS varsity baseball team for the past five seasons. He was a third-team IHSBCA All-Stater in 2022 and is currently batting .394 for the Bobcats. Next fall Nick, who was also a football letterwinner and wrestling state qualifier, will take his talents to Pella, where he will become a member of the Central College baseball team. MHS head coach Allen Mann praised the approach and positive attitude Rebik has displayed throughout the season. “Nick has been a great player for several seasons at MHS but, more importantly, he’s been an outstanding teammate. Central’s getting a quality baseball player but a better individual who will work hard and do things right.” Nick is the son of Sharon Rebik of Marshalltown.
