Iowa women pull away from Wildcats

IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team won its second straight, beating Northwestern 85-80 on Tuesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Hannah Stuelke returned after missing two games and led the Hawkeyes with a season-high 26 points. Lucy Olsen tallied 16 points and six assists, and Aaliyah Guyton made three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points. Sydney Affolter also made three triples and finished with 13 points with five assists.

Northwestern (7-12, 0-8) had the upper hand early, leading by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, before Iowa rallied over the final three periods.

The Hawkeyes (14-7, 4-6) took the lead for good, 29-27, on a layup by Stuelke with 2:41 left in the second quarter. The score was tied once more after that, but the Wildcats never regained the lead.

Caileigh Walsh and Melannie Daley scored 15 points apiece to lead Northwestern.

Iowa plays at home again on Sunday, entertaining No. 4 USC for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff. The Hawkeyes will retire Caitlin Clark’s No. 22 jersey during a ceremony after the game.
