Jewell earns Lambert Award for linebackers

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa senior linebacker Josey Jewell has been named the recipient of the 2017 Jack Lambert Award, presented by the Touchdown Club of Columbus to the best linebacker in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision college football.

The award has been given annually since 1991, named after former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jack Lambert. It will be presented during the 63rd Touchdown Club of Columbus Awards on Feb. 17, 2018.

Jewell leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks third nationally with 125 tackles and 11.4 tackles per game. He is one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Award, a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy and was a semifinalist for the Bednarik and Butkus Awards.

Jewell became just the third Hawkeye in program history to compile three seasons of 100 or more tackles, joining Larry Station (1983-85) and Abdul Hodge (2003-05) in that distinction. He is fifth in school history with 426 career tackles.
