BCLUW girls track repeated as North Iowa Cedar League West conference champs as they scored 144 points with Nicole Fisher winning two events: 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash and Kelsey Feltz repeated as the 800 meter champion in a photo finish with Jamie Fisher.

East Marshall girls captured the BCLUW Comet Relays with 125 points as Kiffany Dunham won the high jump and teamed with Kathi Eggleston, Megan Rhinehart and April Zesch to take the 4×800 relay; Jenny Weitzell won the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash with Rhinehart capturing the 1500 meter run.

East Marshall cross country standout and senior Brennen Wares signed a letter of intent to run cross country at Indian Hills Community College.

West Marshall girls captured first place in the Heart of Iowa Conference tournament with 383 points as Stephanie Nichols led the Trojans and captured the overall medalist honors with a score of 87.

John Moore, after witnessing unicycle riders at Ringling Brother and Barnum and Bailey Circus, decided he would master riding a unicycle and master it he did as he mounts a six foot tall one using a ladder.

West Marshall’s Dalton Ferch and Jake Shipley won there events each to help the Trojans grab the gold at the Ogden Invitational. Ferch won the long jump, the 200 meter dash and was on the winning 4×400 relay team and Shipley won the open 400, the 1600 medley and was on the winning 4×400 relay.

Laura Baitinger, of Albion and Ryan McKibben, of Rhodes, were selected to attend the 14th annual Iowa Agricultural Youth Institute.

Miller Junior High boys track squad won the Marshalltown Invitational with 90 points as John Mulhollin won the 800 meter run and Scott Tilley took the 120 meter high hurdles.

MHS soccer player Hannah Overstake posted her first hat trick scoring three goals against Mason City to help the ‘Cats to a 4-1 victory.

Dan Christenson, eighth grade, won the boys division of the Optimist International Iowa Regional Oratorical Contest and advanced to the District competition.

Rich Mycka shot an even par 35 to lead the MHS boys golf squad to a 147-165 victory over Cedar Falls as Terry Bowling shot a 36, John Dodd and Fred Gore a 38 each and Brad Zeitner and Tim Matt both shot a 40.

Daniel Ingerson, sixth grade student at Lenihan, was the local winner of the Marshalltown Public Library’s WrestleMania winter reading challenge winning two wrestling DVDs and a certificate.

The MHS girls captured the Knoxville Invitational finishing with a 367 in the six-team event as Kate Johnson led the ‘Cats with an 84 followed by Katie McKibben’s 93, Kristen Giannetto’s 94 and Heidi August’s 96.

Five students at MHS received top individual awards during a Junior Achievement banquet: Mary Thomas, Salesperson of the Year; Bob Lyons, Sophomore Achiever of the Year; Robin Harrison, Achiever of the Year; Scott Fortmann, Achiever Relations Award and Jennifer Grimmius, Officer of the Year.

MHS tennis team nudged out Johnston 119-114 at the Marshalltown Girls Tennis Invitational as Class 2A state singles runner up Krissy Lankelma boasted a perfect 93-0 thus far in three Marshalltown Tennis Invitationals.

MHS girls tennis squad won its last 22 sets to blank Ankeny 11-0 as Janis Huff scored the most lop-sided single win in the No. 4 slot with a 6-0 set victories.

Judy Reisetter, a senior at MHS, was the recipient of a $500 Regent Scholarship from Luther College renewable for all four years if she maintains a B+ average.

Cy’s Tailgate Tour scheduled its first-ever stop in Marshalltown for a one hour visit at the Community Y bringing head football coach Paul Rhoads, men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott, Athletic Director Jamie Pollard, tennis coach Armando Espinoza and soccer coach Wendy Dillinger.
