Poppy Day was the program at the Liscomb Auxiliary

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met on May 10 at the home of Sharon Hatch in Whitten. The group enjoyed a brunch before the 1 p.m. meeting. Five members were present. Pres. Hatch called the meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave the opening devotion prayer. A moment of silence for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans was observed. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble.

The secretary read the April minutes, approved as read.

Hatch read Flanders Field, and told about the poppy. National Poppy Day is May 27. She read about the poppy from the Auxiliary magazine. Candy Wait put a Memorial Day display at the Union Public Library. She handed out poppies to all members to distribute. Hatch and Wait are attending BCLUW Awards Night at 7 p.m. on May 10. They will present the Third District Merit Awards to three BCLUW Seniors.

Hatch made the awards to present. Each student gets $200 one time for college.

Toni made a motion to donate $25 to the Iowa Veterans Home poppy maker. Sorensen seconded. Carried.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on June 9 at the Union Library. Wait will bring the food.

The Unit has to fill out the Unit Officers List by June 30.

Sorensen read a “Memorial Day,” to remember the heroes who served and died in the military. The chaplain gave the closing prayer for peace followed by the reading of “Dear God.”
