Spinning Wheel Chapter, DAR, hears of Salvation Army history

The Spinning Wheel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Marshalltown Public Library at 1 p.m. on Nov. 18. VFW Auxiliary Post 839 holds October meeting

The October 2022 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on Oct. 20. The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz, followed by the opening ceremonies according to the ritual. There were nine members present and one visitor. Chaplain Donna Mitchem gave the opening prayer. The September minutes and General Orders were read. The minutes stood approved as read. There was no general correspondence. Ave Maria Study Club members challenged to write faith story

The Ave Maria Study Club met at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church. The meeting started with praying the Rosary for members’ intentions, including prayers for the four youth from the community who lost their lives in the tragic car accident recently, as well as for families and friends, and for the priests from St. Francis Parish, that they be given the strength needed to lead and bring comfort to these families and friends in their grief. Wrapping up 2022 yearend commitments came before Marshalltown VFW Post 839 at Tuesday’s November meeting. Tops among topics came the annual Christmas party updated to Dec. 9.
