VFW Auxiliary Post 839 holds March meeting

The March 2023 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on March 21. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz, followed by the opening ceremonies according to the ritual. There were eight members present, and each of the members are officers. There was one guest present. Chaplain Donna Mitchem gave the Opening Prayer. Federation of Women’s Clubs holds board meeting

The Marshalltown Federation of Women’s Clubs Board Meeting was held at 9:30 a.m. on March 9 at Binford House with eight members and two guests present. Ce Hubbard, president, presided. Continued discussions were held of the organization’s historic and community responsibilities in Marshall County with programs, events and upkeep of the 1874 Binford House, 110 N. Second Ave., in Marshalltown. Board members and volunteers plan and make these efforts happen. The English Tea traditionally served in May is in the process of being planned with publicity soon to be announced.

Rotary distributes weighted blankets

P.E.O. Chapter LT met at 1 p.m. on March 6 at the Marshalltown Public Library with Lisa Koester, president, presiding with 10 members. The 2023-24 officers present were installed by past president, Joann Neven. They are Koester, president; Rhonda Miller, vice president; Sharon Jensen, recording secretary; Corresponding Secretary, Jana Latham; Christin Hobson, treasurer; Rita Smith, chaplain; Anne Paullus, assistant chaplain; Amy Stahlin, guard; Mary Miller, assistant guard. Beta Sigma Phi elects officers

Sigma Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met for lunch on March 14 at El Portal. Eight members and two guests were present and answered Roll Call to: “Are you ready for winter to end?” President Diane Hobson opened the meeting thanking Bonnie Speas for hosting. Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved along with the Treasurer’s report given. Election of officers was a discussion, and Caralee Hutchens made a motion to retain the same President, Secretary and Treasurer and a second was made by Jan Keller. Ave Maria Study Club hears program on Pope John Paul I

The March 10 meeting was held in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church with 13 members present. Co-President RoseAnn Jero opened by giving the group an Irish Blessing. The group then prayed the Rosary led by Co-President Sandy Good. Lunch was served by Co-Hostesses Kathy Slater and Dianne Maile. The program “Popes of the Past” was given by Betty Pieper, featuring Pope John Paul I, known as the Smiling Pope. He was born in 1912 to a very poor but hardworking family in northern Italy.
