VFW Auxiliary Post 839 holds busy meeting

The August 2021 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home at 6:46 p.m. on Sept. 16. Betty Needs, president, led opening ceremonies according to ritual. Six members answered roll call and a guest/potential new member, Pat McLain was present. The opening prayer was given by Linda Fuller in the absence of Chaplain Liz Polkiewicz. Tuesday Musical to host two guest days

Tuesday Musical Club met for a social luncheon at The Marshalltown Public Library on Sept. 28. Officers for 2020-22 are: Mary Giese, president ex-officio; Karen Engesser, treasurer; Jeanne Christensen, president; Christine Norman, vice president; and Pat Kirner, secretary. The club will be hosting a Guest Day at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Hope United Methodist Church featuring John Devlin playing organ and sharing about his Bach Organ Tour. Chapter BB hears about World War II POWs

Linda McCann, an Iowa author, was the guest speaker at the Oct. 4 P.E.O. Chapter BB meeting at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in the Martha Ellen Tye conference room. She spoke about the World War II POWs that were held captive in Iowa. Members had the opportunity to purchase books she has authored following her talk. Chapter JU plays a round of Jeopardy

A business meeting of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood was held on Oct. 4 at the home of Ann Isgrig, Marshalltown. Nineteen members were in attendance. Correspondence included a letter of transfer and two thank-you notes. The next meeting will be Oct. 18 and will include a memorial for JU Sisters who passed away recently. After the business meeting, Isgrig divided the group into teams to play a game of Jeopardy. Chapter MJ welcomes new transfer member

The regular monthly meeting of P.E.O. Chapter MJ was held virtually on Zoom at 7 p.m. on Oct. 4. President Rheba Yost called the meeting to order with 11 members present. Yost gave a quick review of changes made at the recently held International Convention. A letter from Alexa McCulley was read accepting the invitation from Chapter MJ to transfer from Story City Chapter FZ to Chapter MJ.
