Ave Maria Club celebrates the new year

The Ave Maria Study Club met in the Madonna Room on Jan. 13 with 11 members and one guest present. Co-president Sandy Good welcomed the women and led the praying of the Rosary for members intentions. Hostesses Jean Miller and Jamie Snyder served New Years’ Party treats they had prepared. Marj Higgins began the meeting by presenting a program “The 2021 St. Francis Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.” She shared that the Votive Light Chapel there was very impressive. Chapter LT holds business meeting

P.E.O. Chapter LT met on Jan. 16 on ZOOM with 10 members attending. The business meeting was conducted by Lisa Koester, president, with a reminder that dues are now. A committee of Koester, Ann Paulus and Karen Berger was named to plan the December 2023 Reciprocity Christmas Tea and Program for the five chapters in town. This chapter will have a state officer visit later this year. Cottey College, a 4-year Women’s college in Nevada, MO, which is owned by the P.E.O. Chapter JU enjoys Founder’s Day program

Twenty members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met on Jan. 16 at Village Cooperative of Marshalltown. The tea committee of Kirstan Condit, Karen Bursley, Erin Beaumont and Tracy Ostrem served brunch. President Alix Martin conducted a short business meeting. Following the business meeting, members enjoyed a Founder’s Day Program.  The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Marshalltown VFW schedules early year 2023 activities

Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 debated and established a wide range of activities for the new year during Tuesday’s January meeting. Out of varied discussion and planning came setting public fundraiser fish fries on Feb. 24 and March 17 also a ham and beans meal for VFW members at 5 p.m. prior to the Feb. 21 regular meeting. Other times and cost are yet to be determined. Delmar Roberts and Rick Johnson led discussion about the before-meeting meal. Chapter MJ celebrates Founders’ Day

The regular meeting of P.E.O. Chapter MJ was held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Founders’ Day program entitled, “Toast the Sisters” was given by President Rheba Yost. Each of the seven founding sisters were highlighted by brief explanations of their personalities and activities in P.E.O. P.E.O. was founded on Jan. 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. The meeting was called to order by President Yost. Sigma Master meets at Plaza Del Sol

Sigma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met for lunch at Plaza Del Sol on Jan. 10. Secretary Alice Nicholson thanked Jackie Fiscus for hosting as she opened the meeting in place of President Diane Hobson. Six members and one guest attended with two absent.
