Chapter BB hears story on Jessie Binford

Eleven members of Chapter BB, P.E.O met April 17 at the Binford House. Julie Hitchins served as hostess with Jean Brennecke and Sue Cope serving as co-hostesses. Before the meeting, Mary Giese presented an informative program about the life of Jessie Binford. She was a daughter of Thaddeus and Angelica Binford, who built the historic Binford House in 1874. Jessie was a famous activist and social worker for 60 years in Chicago, intervening for children and women. In retirement she returned to Marshalltown, passing away when she was 90. Fr. Miller presents program at Ave Maria Study Club

The Ave Maria Study Club met in the St. Henry dining room at 1 p.m. on April 14 with 14 members and one guest, Bernice Diggins, attending. Hostesses were Thonia Chua and Marj Higgins. The program was arranged by Jean Miller and presented by her son, Fr. Dennis Miller, on his years as a priest. Fr. Miller grew up in Marshalltown and has now served 20 years as a priest in the Archdiocese of Dubuque. GLADBROOK — Spring has arrived to Iowa with warmer temps, robins, flowers poking through and farmers discing to seed waterways. Jeanne welcomed 12 members to the Gladbrook Auxiliary meeting at 1:30 p.m. on April 10 with the pledge to the flag and prayer by Sue Koster. The March Veteran’s Day potluck minutes were read with everyone enjoying the special program by the Iowa Veterans Home commandant. Marshall County Auxiliary holds Spring Conference

Marshall County Spring Conference for the American Legion Auxiliary was held on April 1 and hosted by Laurel Unit #635 and held at the Legion Hall in Laurel. Coffee cake, cherry bars and a fruit plate and coffee was served by Laurel Unit. Registration was at 9 a.m. and $2 each. A board meeting was held at 9:30 p.m. The flags were posted at the head table.
