Retired School Personnel hold April meeting

The MCRSPA met April 17 at the Marshalltown Public Library. The group played a social charades/mixer to start the day before enjoying spring themed treats. There were 22 members present. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Barb Vana. Minutes of the March meeting were read by Rita Smith. Otto Welfring gave the treasurer’s report stating that there were no outstanding bills, and the membership remains at 72. Conrad Auxiliary starts poppy campaign

CONRAD — The Conrad American Legion Auxiliary Post #681 will kick off its annual Poppy Campaign on May 1. The campaign will be conducted throughout May with post members distributing poppies door-to-door and with poppies available in several Conrad businesses, leading up to Memorial Day. The American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its memorial flower in 1921 following World War I, making the poppy a symbol of freedom and the blood sacrificed by troops in wartime. LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. at the Union Library on April 5. Five members present. President Sharon Hatch opened the meeting. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave a devotional prayer. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Auxiliary Preamble, a moment of silence was observed for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans. The April 2023 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on April 18. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz, followed by the opening ceremonies according to the ritual. There were nine members present, each of whom was officers.
