• Eric Maurice Mayes St. made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-impeding the flow of air or blood charge and a child endangerment charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 28. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Gustavo Alonso Perez made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a public intoxication-third or subsequent offense charge, a disorderly conduct charge, an interference with official acts charge and a spitting in a police vehicle charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 28. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days of release.

• Juan Francisco Alejo made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a failure to yield to an emergency vehicle charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 28. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days of release.

• Shana Nicole Luna Arp made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on July 6. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. Arp is released on her promise to appear.

• Tyson Ron Thompson made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a trespass charge. Thompson pleaded guilty to both charges. On the drug paraphernalia charge the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $282.75. The fine on the trespass charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $455. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Christina L. Roberts made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. The charge was dismissed when proof of insurance was produced with $60 in court costs assessed.

• Andrew J. Connell made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. Connell pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 11 in Magistrate Court.

• Kimberly Allen made an initial appearance on a no registration charge and a no insurance charge. Allen pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on July 11 in Magistrate Court.

• Ophelia Juanita Dillingham made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Dillingham pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Maria Fernanda Avalos made an initial appearance on a no proof of vaccination charge. Avalos pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Andres Garcia Jr. made an initial appearance on a leaving the scene of a property damage accident charge, a failure to reduce speed charge and a no insurance-accident charge. Garcia pleaded guilty to all three charges. On the leaving the scene and the failure to reduce speed charges the fines are $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, each. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Ulises Ortiz Medina made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge. Medina pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

Accidents

• On June 12, a black Honda Civic driven by an unknown driver struck a legally parked motorhome causing severe damage to the rear driver side wheel well compartment and then left the scene. Damage to the motorhome was estimated at $30,000.

• On Friday, a pickup driven by Reynaldo Haro, 50, of Marshalltown, was exiting the Family Dollar to go north on Third Avenue when he took the advice of a driver which motioned him to go and crossed into the path of minivan driven by Kelly Gene Tompkins, 56, of Beaman, resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Haro was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Haro pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Tompkins minivan received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

• On Friday, a pickup driven by Marcelino Andrade, 36, of Marshalltown, was northbound on First Avenue when it went though the stop sign on State Street and collided with a minivan driven by Roberto Bautista De Jesus, 53, of Marshalltown. Passenger Eloysa Bautista, 45, was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. Andrade was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Andrade pickup was estimated at $1,500 while the Bautista De Jesus minivan received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

• On Saturday, a car driven by Eric Lee Wires, 52, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Fifth Street stopped at the intersection with Madison Street when he proceeded forward into the path of a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female from Marshalltown resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wires car was estimated at $500 while the juvenile’s vehicle received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Friday, Carlos Davila-Romero, 34, was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender, driving while license is suspended and no valid driver’s license.

• On Friday, Justin Sabus, 26, was arrested for trespass and criminal mischief-fifth degree.

• On Friday, Joseph Masumbuko, 29, was arrested for driving while license is denied or revoked.

• On Sunday, Anna Stewart, 19, was arrested for failure to maintain control and operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Sunday, Tyson Thompson, 36, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and trespass.

Grundy County Sheriff

Accidents

• On Saturday, a car driven by Scott VanGorder, 51, of Evansdale, was westbound on Highway 20 when it drove off on the right hand shoulder of the road, entered the ditch and struck a fence and a tree. VanGorder was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting at the scene were the Wellsburg Fire and Ambulance and the Holland Fire Department.
