Court — Monday

• Rean Allen Webb made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine-second offense charge and two counts of a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel on the possession charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days. Jennifer Frese is appointed as counsel for the probation violations. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $7,000 cash only.

• Raelene Elizabeth Needham made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault charge and a child endangerment charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Needham is released on her promise to appear. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected parties.

• Daniel Martinez Ledezma made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on an operating while under the influence charge, a driving while revoked charge and a no seat belt charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Michael Bryant Frazier made an initial appearance on a theft-fourth degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Frazier is released on his promise to appear.

• Steven Ray Ralls made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge and an interference with official acts charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Steven Edward Graves made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge and a public consumption of alcohol charge. Graves pleaded guilty to both charges and the fines were $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 for each charge, due within 30 days.

• Jose Manuel Gonzalez Torres made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and a failure to yield to an oncoming vehicle charge. Gonzalez Torres pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The fine on the driver’s license charge is $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330. On the failure to yield charge the fine is $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Nichole Lashelle Jans made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Refugio Gonzalez made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a speeding charge. The county attorney’s office amended the driving under suspension to an expired license charge when a valid license was produced. The fine is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50. The speeding ticket was dismissed with court costs of $60 assessed. Payments are due within 30 days.

• Robert Mericle made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a driving under suspension-failure to carry SR-22 insurance charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Mericle pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Rosendo Gamaliel Ordonez Gonzalez made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge, a headlamp violation charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Crystal Deanne Pinney made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Pinney is released on her promise to appear.

• Jenna Williams, of Gilman, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Williams pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Andrew Charles Stengele III made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Stengele pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

• Zachary John Umbaugh made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. Umbaugh pleaded guilty and the fine is $90 with a $31.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $181.50, due within 30 days.

• Lloyd Daniel Tate Jr., of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension-failure to carry SR-22 insurance charge and a speeding charge. Tate pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2019, in Magistrate Court.

Incidents

• On Friday, a theft was reported in the 500 block of East Olive Street.

• On Saturday, a hit and run accident was reported in the 400 block of East Boone Street.

• On Saturday, Dianna Fernanda Murillo, 25, was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended.

Arrests

• On Monday, Ivan Rodriguez Jimenez, 27, was arrested for harassment-first degree and on a warrant.

• On Sunday, Rean Webb, 23, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-second offense.

• On Sunday, Steven Ralls, 32, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Sunday, Roberson Ramirez Velasquez, 22, was arrested for no insurance-accident, no valid driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only.

• On Sunday, Raelene Needham, 29, was arrested for child endangerment-no injury and domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

• On Saturday, Juan Velazco Jr., 26, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-second offense, providing false identification information and on a warrant.

• On Saturday, Freddy Enriquez, 19, was arrested on a warrant from another county.

• On Saturday, Garrett Allard, 18, was arrested for domestic abuse assault-first offense.

• On Saturday, Elizabeth Tacconi, 18, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana-first offense.

• On Saturday, Lucas Snyder, 21, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense.

• On Friday, Ruby Crisp, 42, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

• On Dec. 4, a car driven by Julie Katherine Squiers, 78, of Marshalltown, was northbound on the Frontage Road stopped at the intersection with Nicholas Drive before proceeding forward and colliding with a car driven by Joseph Gene Kinney, 54, of Marshalltown. No injuries were reported. Squiers was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Squiers car was estimated at $2,000 while the Kinney car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

• On Dec. 4, a car driven by Jean Ardell Wilhemi, 81, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Main Street stopped at the intersection with Second Avenue before proceeding forward while a car driven by Alexis Marie Schultz, 18, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Second Avenue and stopped at the intersection with Main Street before proceeding into the intersection where the collision occurred. No injuries were reported. With no witnesses and each driver having a different story, no citations were filed. Damage to the Wilhemi car was estimated at $2,500 while the Schultz car received an estimated $6,500 in damage.

• On Thursday, a Hyundai Santa Fe was parked in the parking lot at 100 Lafrentz Lane when it sustained hit and run damage. Damage to the Santa Fe was estimated at $1,500.

• On Sunday, a car driven by Roberson Osbel Ramirez Velasquez, 22, of North Liberty, was westbound on West Boone Street when it collided with an illegally parked Honda Accord and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Ramirez Velasquez was cited for leaving the scene of an accident-property damage only, no valid driver’s license and no insurance-accident. Damage to the Ramirez Velasquez car was estimated at $4,000 while the Honda Accord had an estimated $3,000 in damage.

Arrests

• On Saturday, Tyler Erickson, 26, was arrested for operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Saturday, Ryan Tish, 32, was arrested on a warrant charging him with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-first offense and possession of a controlled substance.

• On Sunday, Hector Varela Jr., 30, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense, driving under suspension, open container and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On Sunday, Rean Webb, 23, was arrested on a warrant charging him with possession of a controlled substance and two probation violations.

• On Sunday, Athena Padilla, 19, was arrested on a warrant charging her with possession of marijuana-first offense, no valid driver’s license and operating while under the influence-first offense.
