• Jose DeJesus Melgoza Chavarria made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Melgoza Chavarria pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $180.75.

• Erik Armando Gutierrez made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for an arraignment hearing charge. The arraignment hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

• Zachary Steven Bolar made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense charge, a criminal mischief-third degree charge, a possession of methamphetamine charge and a false imprisonment charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 9. Bond is set at $9,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Darrell Melvin Morris Sr. made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving while revoked charge, a leaving the scene of an accident-property damage charge and a no insurance-accident charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 16.

Accidents

• On Thursday, Jan. 25, a pickup driven by Jeffrey Otis Sorem, 63, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sorem pickup was estimated at $5,000.
