Bobcats break up Bulldogs’ six-game win streak
OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown girls’ soccer team smashed Ottumwa’s six-game winning streak with a 3-0 shutout of the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (10-5) got a pair of first-half goals, starting with Sara Huffman’s state-leading sixth penalty kick goal of the season during the 15th minute. Alexia Garcia gave Marshalltown a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute, and Sophie Valdez Chavez tallied a goal in the 71st minute.
Esme Chavez Gomez came away with six goals to secure a clean sheet. Ottumwa’s Blythe Schmidt made 10 saves in net for the Bulldogs (9-5), who lost for the first time since April 15.
Marshalltown is on the road Friday with a 5 p.m. game at Waterloo Columbus.
